Edith WOLFF Twomey 1925 - 2007 SHS 1942
; Edith Twomey, 82, passed away early Saturday morning, Dec. 1, 2007, at St. Vincent Healthcare, Billings.

She was born March 8, 1925, in Sheridan, Wyo., the daughter of Bill and Bea (Spracklen) Wolff. She grew up on the family ranch in the southeastern corner of Rosebud County. She attended a small country school in Gopher for the first six years of her schooling. All the students and teacher rode horseback to school everyday. She completed her schooling in the public schools in Sheridan.

Edith worked the summer of 1944 as a fire lookout on Poker Jim Butte in the Big Horn Mountains. She worked as a bookkeeper in several jobs, spending most of her career years at Yellowstone Electric. Edith worked there for six years prior to having children and then returned there years later to add an additional 21 years, retiring in 1990. She also worked in the office and auction at the Billings Public Stockyards (PAYS) for a number of years after her husband's death in 1960.

Edith was very active with St. Vincent DePaul, where she volunteered her time as bookkeeper for many years, and at St. Thomas Catholic Church, where she was a Eucharist minister to various home bound, nursing and retirement centers.

Edith married Richard "Dick" Twomey on Oct. 16, 1949. Dick died suddenly in 1960 and Edith never remarried and raised her daughters on her own. She passed on her independent nature, love of gardening and spending time in the outdoors to all of her children. Mom loved her bowling and was on league until she was in her late 70s. She also loved to travel, including trips to Mexico, Alaska and Australia.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dick; sister Helen Georgen; brothers Clayton and Richard Wolff.

She is survived by her four daughters, Sandi (Walt) O'Brien, of Eugene, Ore., Peg (Karl) Guhn of Billings, Billie (Dale) Cape of Billings and Barb (Mike) Murphy of Waunakee, Wis.; 10 grandchildren, Satya Chitty of Portland, Ore., Jess Chitty of Billings, Heather (Drew) Haws of Billings, Nikki and Blair Hummel of Bozeman, Andi Hummel of Portland, Ryan and Sam Cape of Billings, Jon and Max Murphy of Waunakee. She was also blessed with three great-grandsons whom she loved very much: Braxton, Chazz and Isaac.

We would like to thank Mom's friends at the condo, especially Lorett, for their vigilance and concern for Mom.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Committal will be in Holy Cross Cemetery with a luncheon to follow.
