George Lawrence Waters of Georgetown,TX passed away July 31, 2005 at North Austin Medical Center at the age of 80.

Mr. Waters was born in Billings, Montana on November 15,1924 to Mae and Leslie Waters.

He is survived by his wife Jo Ann B. Waters whom he married in Carson City, NV June 2,1968.

Mr. Waters graduated from Sheridan, WY High School in 1942.

He had three brothers in the Navy when he enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and served as a Corpsman on a battleship in the Pacific and in a hospital in Bremerton, WA. The three brothers predeceased him: Robert K. Waters in 1977, Earl C. Waters in 1983 and Merrill E. Waters in 1989.

Upon discharge from the Navy, Mr. Waters attended the University of Colorado one year and then transferred to the University of Wyoming graduating with a BA degree in 1949. He played football for Colorado and Wyoming and earned All Conference Defensive End in 1948. He had a professional contract with the Detroit Lions which he never fulfilled due to an injury.

He coached football and basketball in Riverton High School, WY for two years. He then entered the insurance industry where he remained for 42 years until his retirement in 1989.

He was one of the early innovators in mass marketing group health benefits for the small employer through the Multiple Employers Trust (MET) concept. He designed and developed the first nationwide MET for small employers that was underwritten by the Hartford Insurance Group. He designed and established several MET’S with top-ranked insurance companies in the nation. Later he was Regional Vice President in Kansas City of an Insurance Administrators Company located in Irvine, CA. Marketed and serviced all Group insurance business written through approximately ten thousand insurance agents throughout the Midwest and Eastern states. He maintained a regional office with six employees.

Mr. Waters and his wife lived for short periods of time in Walnut Creek, CA; Portland, Oregon; Pocatella, Idaho and Kansas City, MO where they resided for 32 years. They moved to Georgetown in 2002 to be closer to three sons living in Texas.

Mr. Waters is an Episcopalian by faith and a very kind and loving husband and father.

He is survived by five sons; Merrill C. and Kim Waters, Sacramento, CA, Michael C. and Carol Waters of Houston, TX, Thomas R. and Diane Waters of Georgetown,TX, Patrick J. and Christi Waters of Dallas, TX; Larry and Kristen Lindmark of Viroqua, WI, ten grandchildren- Ami and Kara; Meghan and Merrill, Maggie and Jake Waters; Jeff, Steve ,Sarah and August Lindmark; four great grandchildren; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Friday August 5,2005 from 6-8 P.M. at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held Saturday August 6, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel with Reverend Robert Viggiano of Grace Episcopal Church, Georgetown, officiating. Burial will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Georgetown,TX.

Serving as Pallbearers are: Merrill Waters, Michael Waters, Thomas Waters, Patrick Waters, John Chapman and James Waters.
