Mae PHILLIPS Harper 1923 -2009 SHS 1942

Mae P. Harper born May 3, 1923, in Sheridan, Wyoming.

Passed away January 3, 2009, in Lancaster, Calif.

She and her family moved to the Antelope Valley in 1955. Mae was employed by the USAF Civil Service at Edwards, AFB as a staff (Executive) Secretary on the Generals Staff of AFFTC, in the office of Deputy Chief of Staff/Operations, Plans and Programs, and retired in 1981.

She was a member of Grace Chapel Church.

An active member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, (NARFE). Offices that she held in NARFE were President, Vice President, and Legislative Chairman, and she was also a Volunteer for the Lancaster Performing Arts Center.

Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Ellery "Bert" Harper, parents Enos and Della Phillips of Sheridan, Wyo., sister June Hargis, and brother, James Phillips.

Survivors include her two daughters, Penney K. Taylor, Becky Mansfield (husband David), grandchildren Melanie Forehand, (husband Rik), Ellery DeWeese, Shane Mansfield, and great-grandson, Benjamin Forehand.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 24, 2009, at Grace Chapel Church, Lancaster, in the Worship Center with a reception following. Interment will be private at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, Calif.

In lieu of flowers, Mae requested that donations be made in her memory to Grace Chapel Church, Antelope Valley Committee on Aging, and Mayflower Gardens Convalescent Hospital.
