Dorothy Lorene NICHOLIN Claussen Miller - 1924 - 2013 SHS 1942

A celebration of the life of Dorothy Miller, 89 of Chico will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at Bidwell Memorial Presbyterian Church in Chico.

Dorothy passed away on October 12, 2013 in Chico.

Dorothy was born in Sheridan, Wy. On April 13, 1924.

She is survived by her husband Ray Miller of Chico, her daughter Carol Tyler Kaiser {Timothy} of Chico, stepson Brad Miller of Chico and stepdaughter Kate Miller Thompson of Chico.

She was preceded in death by her first husband George Claussen.

Dorothy also leaves behind 6 grandchildren- Kimberly Tyler, Blake Tyler, Jaclyn Noble, Chad Burrell, Shauna Miller, Melanie Miller, 7 great grandchildren.

Dorothy moved from Wyoming to California in 1947 and resided in the bay area until the early 1970's. Then she and George moved to Live Oak, Ca. working at Sunset Moulding Co until his death in 1986.

In 1987, she met Ray Miller at the Biggs Presbyterian Church as a greeter. They quickly formed a friendship and began having lunch together each Sunday after services. In May of 1989, they married and moved to Chico and have lived in the same house for 24 years.

Dorothy was always busy and learning something new. She knitted hats for the Jesus Center, made skirts for children in Haiti and volunteered at Citrus school and worked with the foreign exchange students at Chico State. Her hobbies included landscaping her garden, collecting and refinishing antiques, knitting, crocheting and just lately took up painting landscapes as well.

Dorothy was a calm and generous person with a heart of gold. She was the person who both family and friends could count on. She loved unconditionally and always took the time to listen and offer comfort. She will be remembered fondly and dearly missed by many.
