SHERIDAN - Graveside services for Sheridan resident Charles A. Lilley, 78, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, May 28, in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery, with military rites by the Marine Corps League and American Legion.

He died May 23, 2003, in Deaconess Hospital in Billings, Mont.

Born Sept. 7, 1924, in Acme, he was the son of Albert and Violet (Hill) Lilley; and was raised and educated in Acme and Sheridan.

In 1942, he married Nancy Emma Jean Towns in Hardin, Mont.

He enlisted in the U,S. Marine Corps during World War II and served in the 4th Marine Division in the South Pacific.

After his discharge, he returned to Sheridan and worked as a meat cutter. Later, he moved to Washington state as a meat cutter, retiring in Vancouver.

He returned to Sheridan in 1990.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years of Sheridan; two daughters, Karen Gambs and Christy Northrop, both of Vancouver; three brothers, Gerald Lilley of Fair Oaks, Calif., William Lilley of Sheridan and Larry Lilley of Albany, Ore.; three sisters, Virginia Stevens of Sheridan, Alice Hyder of Cedar City, Utah, and Betty Snodgrass of Ramona, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Charles; and a grandson.
