Sheridan native John William Johnson, 84, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at his daughter's home in Austin, Texas.

He will be interred next to his first wife in Powell, and services will be later. Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home in Austin is in charge of arrangements.

Born Oct. 6, 1924, in Sheridan to Jay and Marguerite Rose Johnson, he graduated from Sheridan High School in 1942.

He was a World War II veteran who served in the 273rd Infantry from 1943-1946.

He graduated from the University of Wyoming, then obtained a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois.

He spent his career with Shell Chemical Co.

He was elected to the Woodbury Heights, N.J., School Board.

He enjoyed his children and grandchildren and was happiest trout fishing in Wyoming.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dottie Larsen (1976); his second wife, Sylvia Byler; a daughter, Janis Johnson; a brother, Harry; and two sisters, Barbara Burkhardt and Anna Wyatt.

Survivors include two children, D’Ann Johnson of Austin and Douglas Johnson of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two brothers, Charley Johnson of Las Vegas and George Johnson of Sheridan; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
