Lilas M. Cox, 88, died peacefully on July 17, 2013, at Sheridan Manor.

Lilas was born July 19, 1924 in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, the fourth of thirteen children of Granville and Alta Carroll. The family moved to Sheridan when she was a young girl. Lilas graduated from Sheridan High School in 1942.

She married Roger Cox, April 7, 1945 and enjoyed 65 years of marriage, until his death April 5, 2010. Lilas and Roger have two sons, Jim of Prescott Valley, AZ. and Russ of Sheridan.

Lilas' faith in God and His loving word encouraged her for many years while teaching bible study groups. Working and raising her family was not enough, she was always willing to put the needs of others ahead of herself by providing a place to stay and food to eat whether for one night or for several months.

Lilas' work history started early, helping in her father's real estate business. Lilas moved to Oklahoma in the early 1940's, living with her sister, while she helped in the manufacture of aircrafts during World War II. Returning to Sheridan, she worked various jobs until she retired from the Sheridan Employees Federal Credit Union after 17 years.

Lilas enjoyed playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, working in her garden, being in the mountains with family and friends, and always being there for someone in need. Lilas will be missed for her kind words and her continuous effort to find the good in everyone. Her favorite saying to Jim and Russ, as they were growing up, was "If you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything at all."

Lilas was preceded in death by her parents, Granville and Alta, husband Roger, brothers: Don, Ike, and Melvin Carroll, and sisters: Bea Hannon, Sylvia Daley, and Lluada Larson.

She survived by sons: Jim (Jo ) Prescott Valley AZ, Russ ( Patty) of Sheridan, brothers: Jerry (Natalie) Carroll of Buffalo, WY, Neal (Judy) Carroll of Sheridan, George (Doralee) Carroll of Greeley, CO and sisters: Docia (Don) Schuman, Rachael (George) Terry of Sheridan and Ella (Gary) Krull, of Faribault, MN. grandchildren Travis Cox of Lehi, UT, Heather (Kody) Bone of Bountiful, UT, David (Melissa) Cox, Katie (Jason) Reeves, Michael (Paige) Cox of Sheridan, great grandchildren Tegan and Ty Cox of Lehi, UT, companion Pete Welty and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at the Wesleyan Church on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 10:00am with Rev. Darrell White officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Reception will follow at the church.
