Ira Lee "Ike" CARROLL 1923 - 2001 SHS 1942

RANCHESTER â€" Ira Lee "Ike" Carroll, 77, of Ranchester died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at his home.

Vigil service will be 7 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral liturgy will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Cliff Jacobson officiating. Interment will be in Dayton Cemetery.

Mr. Carroll was born April 17, 1923, in Bonner's Ferry, Idaho, to Grandville W. and Alta (Wallace) Carroll. The family moved to Sheridan shortly after he was born. He graduated from Sheridan High School.

He served in the SeaBees during World War II in the Aleutians and, later in the Mariannas in the Pacific. After the war, he attended Farragut College in Idaho and the University of Wyoming.

He married Shirley Logan in 1950 in Billings.

He founded the Carroll Land Company, retiring in 1988.

He was active in several fraternal and civic organizations and took special pleasure in serving as a trustee for Sheridan College during the college's first building phase on the present campus. He was a strong supporter of the 4-H and served as a leader for many years.

Survivors include his wife, of Ranchester; six sons, Kim of Hulett, Duff of Huntsville, Ala., Sean and Andy, both of Ranchester, Chad of Rapid City and Nathan of Parkman; a daughter, Lisa Carroll of Ranchester; five brothers, Don and Neal, both of Sheridan, Melvin of Riverton, Gerald of Buffalo and George of Greeley, Colo.; seven sisters, Rachel Terry, Lluada Larsen, Sylvia Daley, Docia Hunter and Lilas Cox, all of Sheridan, Ella Krull of Fairbault, Minn., and Bea Hannon of Hot Springs, Mont.; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
