OBITUARIES - CASPER STAR-TRIBUNE - October 27, 2002

CASPER - Funeral services for Bert Ekis, 79, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Casper with the Rev. Bill Moore officiating.

Inurnment of cremains will be Saturday, Nov. 2, at 11 a.m. in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

Born April 26, 1923, in Dietz to Albert and Bessie (Moon) Wondra, she was raised and educated in Sheridan.

On Sept. 25, 1944, she married Edward Ekis in Billings, Mont.

The couple moved to Lead, S.D., in 1954 to start a career in golf, which took them to Wyoming, New Mexico and Arizona, where her husband was the golf pro and she was the food and beverage manager.  After retirement, she moved back to Sheridan and lived there until she moved to Casper in 1995.

A sports advocate, she also loved sewing and cooking.

Survivors include one daughter, Diana Johnson and her husband of Casper, one son, Edward Ekis of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Betty Newson of San Jose, Calif.; and one granddaughter and one grandson, both of Phoenix.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Gary Ekis; one sister, Alice Hinckley; and her parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Parkinson's Foundation, 833 W. Washington Blvd., Chicago, Ill., 60607.

Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory is handling arrangements.
