Richard Sherman "Bud" WILLIAMS 1922 - 1988 SHS 1941

Richard S. "Bud" Williams, 75, died of Lou Gehrig's disease Friday, Sept. 25, 1998, at his home in Yakima, Wash.

Cremation has taken place and a family memorial will be at a later date.

He was born Dec. 17, 1922, in Sheridan to William and Hazel (Kendall) Williams. He grew up on the family ranch near Banner. He attended Banner School and Sheridan High School, graduating in the class of 1941.

He enlisted in the Navy in 1942, becoming a Corpsman 1st Class and serving at Oak Knoll Navy Hospital in Oakland, Calif. where the wounded from the Pacific Theater were received. Later in World War II, he served in the Pacific on the carrier USS Bairoko.

After the war, he attended Greeley Teacher's College (now Northern Colorado University), where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees in art and drama.

After graduation, he taught in Taft and LaGrande, Ore., before going to Yakima, Wash., where he taught until his retirement.

In Yakima, he also served as Superintendent of Art Instruction for the Yakima School System. Upon retiring from education, he developed a mini-circus for creative youth.

This circus for creative youth is in its 15th year of performing.

Survivors include his wife, Eileen, Yakima; daughter Leslie Williams-Flores, Yakima; son, Lane Williams, and daughter Christine Williams, Seattle; three sisters, Nellie Newcomer, Sheridan; Lois Buesgens, Greensboro, Md.; and Doris Bohleen, Livingston, Mont.; brother, Harry, Banner; three grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and his life-long friend Walter "Bill" Lane, Missoula, Mont.
