Des Moines - William Harold Tanney, Sr., 83, died Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown.

Funeral 5 services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday .January 28 at Southtown Funeral Home, with burial at Glendale Cemetery.

William was born December 30, 1921 in Sheridan, Wyoming, where he graduated from Sheridan High School.

He served in the US Navy during WWII and attended Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago.

He married Leona Bjarnason on July 3, 1945 and was a member of the Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church.

He retired from Dahl's Grocery Store on Ingersoll as a cashier.

William is survived by his wife, Leona Tanney; sons, William Tanney, Jr. and David (Karole) Tanney; daughter, Pauline (Rick) Tanney Taylor; grandchildren, Trisha, James, Kristine, Hillary and Lindsay; sister, Martha Petty; and many beloved friends.

Memorial contributions may be given to Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Southtown Funeral Home.
