Henrietta Sutphin was born November 10, 1921, in Dietz, (Sheridan County) Wyoming, to Joe and Anna (Wierzbicki) Stuka. She was raised there, attending Dietz School for eight years, and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1941. She received her B.A. degree from the University of Wyoming.

After graduation from college, she began her teaching career in Clearmont, Wyoming. She also taught in Lingle, Glenrock, and Casper, where she retired in 1981.

Henrietta married Melvin L. Sutphin on April 26, 1947, in Glenrock, where they made their home for ten years before moving to Casper in 1958.

Henrietta was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Wyoming Teachers Association, and Retired Teachers Association.

Henrietta and her husband Mel were noted for their lovely rose garden, and she continued cultivation of the beautiful roses after his death in 1980.

Crafts were her pride and joy, and she decorated beautiful eggs - from small bird’s eggs to giant ostrich eggs, which were painted and transformed into works of art. She also embroidered crewel pictures, made quilts, and painted pictures and cards.

Henrietta is survived by her son, Don and his wife Cindy; two granddaughters, Amanda and Angela, two sisters, Wanda Godawski of Chicago, and Mary Weber of Casper, one brother, Walter Stuka of North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, three brothers, and her parents.
