CRASH FATAL TO LT. SKINNER IN BURMA AREA
First Lieut. William W. Skinner, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Skinner,

South Linden street, was killed in action in a plane crash, March 19,
according to a war department telegram received here Thursday morning
by his
parents.
Lieut. Skinner was serving with the 10th air force in Burma, having
recently
received his promotion to the rank of first lieutenant.
A pilot with the 80th fighter group-the Burma Banshees-that had raised
havoc
with their P-47's, Lieut. Skinner wore the distinguished flying cross
and
air medal with two oak leaf clusters. He had been serving in
the Burma
theater nine months.
Graduated from Sheridan high school in May, 1941, Lieut.. Skinner attended
the University of Wyoming, where he was affiliated Phi Delta Theta.
A brother, Lieut. (jg) Henry Skinner is serving with the navy in the
south
Pacific.
Hi-Y (3,4), Honor Society (3,4), Los Buscadores (1), Chairman of Prom
Committee (3), Track (1,2), Tennis tournament (1,2,3,4), Ping Pong
Tournament (2,3,4), Debate (3,4), State Music Festival (2,3,4), Freshman
Football, President of Honor Society (4), Vice President of Class (2),
Scholarship to Summer Session of Speech Institute, University of Denver,
Class Play (4). At graduation Bill was awarded a Four Year Full
Tuition to
the University of Wyoming as one of the four male students with the
highest
scholastic standing, the Lions Club award for being one of the two
male
students with the highest scholastic standing, and a Letter in Music.
