Clarence L. ROUSH 1919 - 2001 SHS 1941

SHERIDAN - Private family services will be held at a later date for Clarence L. Roush, 81, who died June 19, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

He was born Dec. 17, 1919, in Sheridan, the son of P.T. and Margaret (Hustiwaite) Roush. The family moved to Eugene, Ore., when he was a young boy, where he attended school. Later, they moved to Great Falls, Mont. They returned to Sheridan, where he graduated from Sheridan High School. He played high school football and track and participated in Golden Gloves boxing.

In 1942, he married Cora Mattox in Sheridan. They were the parents of four daughters and later divorced.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943, where he was in the submarine service during World War II.

In 1956, he married Erlene Slayter in Sheridan. She had two daughters and together they had one son. He was co-owner of Roush Plumbing and Heating until 1976, when he became the plumbing inspector for the city of Sheridan. He retired in 1990.

An avid sports fan, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was a member of the American Legion and Kalif Shrine and directed the Oriental Band for 27 years. He was a 50-year member of Eagles Lodge No. 186 and Masonic Lodge No. 8 and a life member of the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union.

Survivors include his wife of Sheridan; a son, Tom Roush of Big Horn; six daughters, Julia Ann Nyholm and Billie Jean Norberg, both of Centralia, Wash., Diana Lynn Jackson and Vicki Lou Rigdon, both of Longview, Wash., Debra Rice of Sheridan and Chrissy Fann of Lander; a brother, Roliert Roush of Sheridan; 17 grandchildren; and 19 greatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen and Ralph; and a sister, Louise.
