SHERIDAN -- Memorial services for Nelda Mae Carroll, 84, will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007, at the new First Baptist Church of Sheridan with Pastor Ken Doolin officiating.

She died Nov. 12, 2007, at her residence, surrounded by her family.

She was born May 1, 1923, in Sheridan to Lucille (Kegerreis) and Hanney G. Olson. She attended Whitney Grade School at Meade Creek and later graduated from Sheridan High School with the class of 1941.

During World War II, she was enrolled in the nursing program at Montana State University, Bozeman and also attended the University of Utah, where she was affiliated with Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.

She married William B. Carroll on Jan. 2, 1947, at the First Baptist Church of Sheridan.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sheridan, the Women's Missionary Society, Chapter T PEO, served as regent with the Sheridan chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Board, was chairman of the Girl Scout cookie drive and participated in the Linden School throat culture program.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing golf, reading American Indian history, painting, knitting and following politics.

Survivors include her husband, her daughters and their husbands, Jane Carroll of Denver, Catherine Kiaie of Milwaukee, Wis., Patricia Prestfeldt and Margaret Sare, both of Sheridan; two sisters, Martha Baker of Tucson, Ariz., and Duretta Vestal of Salinas, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Mary Ann Carroll Taylor.

Memorials may be made in her name to the First Baptist Church, 3179 Big Horn Ave., Sheridan or The Hospice of the Big Horns, 1401 W. 5th St., Sheridan, 82801.
