Robert Gordon MILLER 1923 - 1987 SHS 1941

SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Robert G. Miller, past mayor of Sheridan, had served on the Sheridan City Council, was past president and director of the Sheridan Chamber of Commerce, past president of Northeast Wyoming Bankers Association and president of the First National Bank of Sheridan from 1973 to 1985.

He was past potentate of the Kalif Shrine of Sheridan and was active in their brass band and uniform units. He served as director of the Shrine Bowl of Wyoming, was treasurer of Sheridan Court No. 135 Royal Order of the Jesters, finance officer for nine years for the American Legion and was active in the Boy Scouts of America since 1947, serving in many district and council positions and was the holder of the Silver Beaver award.

He was also a member of Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies Sheridan Lions Club, Elks Lodge, Sheridan Musicians Union and the First United Methodist Church.

During World War II he completed four years’ service with the Army Transportation Corps in Iran and the New York Port of Embarkation.

Mr. Miller, 64, died Thursday evening in Sheridan County Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

He was born in Wayne, Neb., a son of Rollie and Sue Miller. He attended school in Cody and Buffalo and graduated from Sheridan High School. He attended Denver Business College, Northwestern University of Wyoming and American Institute of Banking.

On March 9, 1946, he married Nanette Meyer in Brooklyn, N.Y., and shortly thereafter they moved to Sheridan. She died April 24, 1982. He later married Florence Wilson on Jan. 25, 1984, in Casper.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Dr. Robert E. Miller of Vancouver, Wash.; three daughters, Willa L. Curtis of Salt Lake City, Utah, Glenna D. Long of Cheyenne and Venere S. Howell of Sheridan; two brothers, Neal E. of Casper and Sterling J. of Aurora, Colo.; a stepson, Richard C. Wilson of Laramie; three stepdaughters, Corrine Wilson of Medford, Ore., Renee King of Sheridan and Cheri Wilson of Casper; and 14 grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church with burial in Willow Grove Cemetery, Buffalo.
