Milton Leo MCKENNA 1923 - 2002 SHS 1941

Milton L. McKenna, 79, of Glen Mills, a retired engineer, died of complications from pneumonia Sunday at Riddle Memorial Hospital in Media.

Mr. McKenna was a member of the Naval ROTC attending the University of Washington when he was called up for active duty in 1944. He served as a flight deck officer on the aircraft carrier USS Sangamon in the South Pacific during World War II.

After the war, Mr. McKenna returned to his studies and earned a bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering from the University of Washington.

He had been working for a Seattle engineering firm for several years when he was recalled to serve during the Korean War and was stationed at the Philadelphia Navy Base.

Mr. McKenna married Camille Rohr in 1953. The couple relocated to Ohio, then Maryland, returning to Philadelphia in 1974 when Mr. McKenna joined the engineering staff at a Gulf & Western Inc. office in Swarthmore. After three years, Mr. McKenna joined the former Spivey Co. in Concordville. He left that firm to start his own consulting business in the mid-1980s and retired as president of the ML McKenna company in 1995.

Mr. McKenna served on the finance, transition and maintenance committees at Fox Hill Farms, an adult community in Glen Mills. He helped establish the community's computer database.

Mr. McKenna also served as a eucharistic minister at St. Cornelius Church in Chadds Ford and assisted in the planning of the parish's new school building.

In addition to his wife of 49 years, Mr. McKenna is survived by daughters Cynthia A. Sheridan and Susan Marie Sotiropoulos; two sisters; and three grandchildren.

A viewing will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. today at St. Cornelius Church, Chadds Ford. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. Burial is private.
