Harry "Jack" Johns, 78, of Story died Tuesday, April 30, 2002, in St. George, Utah, following a short illness.

Memorial services will be in June. The exact date will be announced later. Mr. Johns' ashes will be interred in Mount Hope Cemetery in Big Horn.

He was born June 25, 1923, in Story to Harry and Dorothy Nell Johns.

He was a 1941 graduate of Sheridan High School.

He worked for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department near Rock River and spent one summer at Glacier National Park.

He enlisted in the military in 1942, and served as a B-25 tail-gunner with the 345th bombing group in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

He worked for the first Fisheries Management crew in Buffalo in June 1950 and later worked at the Cheyenne office.

He received bachelor's and master's degrees in biology from the University of Wyoming, and taught biology for many years in San Jose, Calif., as head of the biology division. He also taught briefly at Sheridan Community College.

He and his first wife, Rosemary, lived in Wyoming and California until her death.

He married Gwendolyn (Hosburg) Hepp Feb. 14, 1981, in Buffalo. She died in 1994.

He married Jeanne Kleene. They had homes in Buffalo and Nevada in addition to Story.

Survivors include his wife; a brother, Jerry of Sheridan; six stepchildren, Vicki Harwood of Chandler, Ariz., Mike Hepp of Falls Church, Va., Doug Hepp of Worland, and Kelli Heppner, Jacki Powell and Mark Hepp, all of Buffalo; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Buffalo, Story Woman's Club museum project or the Susie B. Lawrence Hospice of Buffalo
