Virginia Lucille "Jenny" HOUX Nunley 1924 - 1991 SHS 1941

CASPER - Mass of Christian Burial for Virginia Lucille Nunley, 66, will be celebrated Monday at noon at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church by Father Dan Colibraro.

A rosary will be recited Sunday at 7 p.m. at Memorial Chapel. Interment will be at the Oregon Trail Veteran’s Cemetery.

Mrs. Nunley died Oct. 24, 1991, following complications from a lengthy illness. She was born Nov. 1, 1924, in Sheridan, the daughter of Earl and Elizabeth (Ottopolick) Houx.

She was the granddaughter of former Wyoming Gov. Frank L. Houx.

She attended schools in Sheridan and later graduated high school there. She then attended St. Mary's in Kansas.

At the age of 18, she obtained a pilot's license after being inspired by her brother who was a pilot in World War ll.

On June 1, 1946, she married John F. Nunley in Sheridan.

Mrs. Nunley was an avid watercolorist, oil painter and was skilled in India ink etchings. She received numerous awards for her work at county and state fairs, the National Audubon Society Art Show, and numerous other competitions. Her work is displayed in many foreign countries as well as the United States.

She was active in league bowling, a life member of the Parent Teacher's Association, a den mother of Den 3, and a county election judge coordinator for many years. Mrs. Nunley was a member of the Casper Artists Guild, the Wyoming Watercolor Association, and attended Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, John Nunley of Casper; her children, John Nunley of Cheyenne, Cynthia Nunley of Lander and Mike Nunley of Glenellyn, Ill.; one sister, Margaret Lewis of Sheridan; and four grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother.

Friends may call at Memorial Chapel beginning Sunday at 1 p.m.

Memorials to either the Casper Artists Guild, the Casper Humane Society, or to the Central Wyoming Cancer Treatment Center and Hospice would be appreciated by the family.

Memorials may be left at Memorial Chapel.
