Betty Jo HERDERICH Scherer 1924 - 2002 SHS 1941

Longtime Adna resident Betty Jo Scherer died from cancer Tuesday, Nov. 5, at the age of 78 at her home in Chehalis.

Born March 31, 1924, in Sheridan, Wyo., to Lorenz C. and Emma (Bruckner) Herderich, she was reared and attended public schools there. She later attended Peterson Business College.

As a child, her farm chores included milking cows, collecting eggs from chickens, and raising chickens and turkeys, which allowed her extra money.

She had been an Adna resident since 1943, coming from Wyoming.

In 1968, she married Harold Scherer, and they lived in Adna. He died in 1996. She enjoyed traveling and had visited many of the eastern and midwestern states.

Scherer worked as a secretary for Uhlmann Motors for five years and later worked for Lewis County Public Utility District for 27 years, serving as senior cashier.

Her enjoyments were raising flowers, gardening and raising dachshunds, her favorite being Mitzi.

Her survivors include her stepson, Roy Scherer; her stepdaughter, Gail Lugar; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a niece; and a nephew.

Arrangements are under the direction of Newell-Hoerling's Mortuary, Centralia.

A funeral for Betty Jo Scherer will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Adna Evangelical Church with the Rev. Dennis Stoltenberg officiating. Services will conclude at the church. Family interment service will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Chehalis. The casket will remain closed. Pallbearers will be Terry and Jody Miller, Larry Herderich, Larry Petersen, Howard Brossard and Dave Scherer.
