Elizabeth BELLOWS Rice 1923 – 2017 SHS 1941

RICE, Elizabeth 83, passed away in Tucson on April 17, 2017.

She was born in Sheridan County, WY, on May 5, 1923, the younger of two children born to Mary Grace (Bear) Bellows and Kenneth Bellows, who both predeceased her along with her brother KC Bellows. Her husband of almost 70 years, Howard Hadley Rice, also predeceased her.

Those left to remember her are children: Howard Rice, Jr. (Vicki), Nancy Callicotte (John) and Robert "Bob" Rice (Debby); four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Beth attended school in Sheridan and was given a half-tuition scholarship to the University of Denver when she graduated high school. There she majored in Journalism but later changed to Sociology. While a college student, Beth met a handsome Army Air Corp cadet and they were married on June 10, 1944.

After Howard's discharge, they moved to Montana where Howard attended college on the GI bill. After Howard's graduation his career took them to New Mexico, Nicaragua, Arizona, North Carolina, and back to Morenci, Arizona. Beth was adventurous and created a welcoming home for her family and friends wherever she lived.

She was involved in her church and Girl Scouting-always taking on projects to improve her community.

She loved to write and spent countless hours researching genealogy.

Her Memorial Service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 27, 2017 in the Chapel at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 7650 N. Paseo del Norte, Tucson with reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers contributions to Casa de la Luz Hospice or the Salvation Army would be appreciated.

Arrangements by DESERT SUNSET FUNERAL HOME.
