Charles Eric BECKER 1923 – 1993 SHS 1941

SHERIDAN - Services for Charles E. Becker, 70, of Sheridan, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Ferries Funeral Home by Rev. Ray Clark. Interment will be in the Sheridan Elks Cemetery.

Mr. Becker died Aug. 2, 1993, at the Veterans Medical Center of cancer.

He was born May 20, 1923, to C. Eric and Dorothy Becker in Sheridan where he grew up and graduated high school. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa where he received a bachelor's degree 1945, a master's degree in 1950 and a Ph.D. degree in 1955, all in music.

During World War II, Mr. Becker served with the U.S. Army and received a Purple Heart. He was a prisoner of war in Germany from September 1944 to May 1945.

On June 13, 1948, he married Dorothy L. Baker in Sheridan.

Mr. Becker was a professor of music at California State University at Long Beach, Calif., from 1956 until retiring in 1981. He returned to Sheridan in 1983.

A member of Elks Lodge No. 520, Mr. Becker was also a member of the American Legion and a life member of Disabled American Veterans.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Monahan of Dickinson, N.D., and Susan Becker of Sheridan; a brother, Robert Becker of Brigham City, Utah; a sister, Dorotha J. Becker of Casper; two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
