Mary Alice ARNOLD Chartrey 1923 - 2018 SHS 1941

Mary A. Chartrey, 94, a resident of the Hillsboro community, died Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the Marquis Care Center in Forest Grove.

Mary Alice Chartrey was born on May 27, 1923 in David City, Nebraska, the daughter of the late Thomas B. Arnold and Lillian N. (Franklin) Arnold. She was raised and received her grade school education in Linwood, Nebraska.v In 1937 she and her family moved to Sheridan, Wyoming where she completed her schooling, having been a graduate of the Sheridan High School Class of 1941. vShe then attended Business School.

In March of 1942 she went to Washington, D.C. to work at the Government Army Records Department. Mary met her husband in Washington, D.C. in 1942. She was united in marriage to Francis Howard "Charlie" Chartrey on April 22, 1944 at the Naval Chapel in Anacostia, D.C.

Following their marriage Charlie continued his military career, serving a total of twenty-two years in the United States Navy. They lived in twelve states until 1960 when he retired and they moved to Oregon, settling in Hillsboro, where she has resided since. After celebrating over 67 years of marriage together, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie on January 4, 2012.

Mary worked at Tektronix, Inc. in Beaverton for eleven years. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Lillian Arnold, and her four sisters, Doris, Betty, Mildred, and Margaret.

Survivors include her son, Charles T. Sr., and his wife, Cecile Chartrey, of North Las Vegas, Nevada. Also surviving are her two grandchildren and their spouses, Christopher T. and Shannon Chartrey and Charles T., Jr. and Charmaine Chartrey, and their children, Joseph and Kennedie; her great-grandson, Charles Hunter Chartrey, and several nieces and nephews.

The family suggests that remembrances may be contributions to the American Heart Association, Oregon Affiliate, Inc., 1425 N.E. Irving Street, Suite 100, Portland, Oregon 97232, in her memory.
