William Kimmel WILLIAMS 1922 - 1944 SHS 1940

William served as a Radioman Third Class, U.S.S. Johnston (DD-557), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Sheridan County, Wyoming prior to the war.

William was declared "Missing In Action" when the Johnston, in what became known as the Battle of Leyte Gulf (aka. Battle off Samar), was hit over 50 times, by Japanese ships and sunk during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
