Former Story and Sheridan resident Ernest “Ted” Shireman, 87, died Thursday, July 30, 2009, in Arlington, Texas.

Born March 1, 1922, in Miles City, Mont., to Ernest and Mable (Wilson) Shireman, he grew up in Story and Sheridan and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1940.

He was a flight instructor for the Navy from 1942 to 1946 and a Marine Corps pilot from 1953 to 1955. He made his career as a pilot.

He enjoyed hunting, camping and trail riding with his son on his East Texas property.

He and his wife enjoyed extensive travel after retirement.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Butler of Sheridan.

Survivors include his wife, Ernestine “Ernie” Shireman; a son, Ron Shireman of The Colony, Texas; two daughters, Linda Shireman of Irving, Texas, and Judy Hayes of Arlington; and two grandsons.
