Rex L. PULLIN 1922 - 2004 SHS 1940

Sheridan-native Rex L. Pullin, 81, died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, Mass., after suffering a heart attack, his family announced.

He was the husband of Carol (Jorgenson) Pullin for 56 years. He was the son of George M. and Gertrude D. Pullin and brother of the Robert and Audrey Pullin.

Mr. Pullin was born, Oct. 22, 1922, and raised in Sheridan. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served as a radio operator for Gen. Douglas MacArthur in Tokyo at the end of World War II.

After his service, he completed a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Denver.

Mr. Pullin lived in Sheridan until 1957, when he began employment at the U.S. Census Bureau as a field administrator in Denver.

During his many years with Bureau he received numerous promotions, eventually retiring as an associate director of the Bureau in Washington, D.C., where he oversaw field operations for the entire U.S. Census.

After his retirement, Mr. Pullin consulted to the United Nations, assisting the Pakistani government with its first national census.

Surviving in addition to his wife and four children, Diana Pullin of Massachusetts, Deborah Pullin of Vermont, Robert Pullin of New Jersey, and Melissa Pullin of Massachusetts; and six grandchildren.
