OBITUARIES - CASPER STAR-TRIBUNE - May 8, 2002

GILLETTE - Funeral services for Gillette resident Harriet Elizabeth "Liz" Kerns Daly, 80, will be conducted at 10 a.m. today at First Presbyterian Church in Gillette by the Rev. Joel Wright.  Burial will follow in Mount Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette.

She died May 5, 2002, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette, of natural causes.

She was born Feb. 7, 1922, in Sheridan, the daughter of John Wesley and Harriet (Dana) Kerns; was raised on the Passcreek Ranch, west of Parkman; and attended schools in Sheridan County.  In 1940, she graduated from Sheridan High School.

In 1944, she graduated from the University of Wyoming, with a bachelor of science degree in home economics.  She taught high school in Sundance in 1944 and 1945.

On June 20, 1945, she married James R. "Jim" Daly at the Pass Creek Ranch.

They lived at the Daly Ranch, north of Gillette, for 20 years, then moved to Gillette.  She was owner and officer of Daly Livestock.

She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, Campbell County and Wyoming Cattlewomen associations, Order of Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile and a homemakers club.  A former member of P.E.O. Chapter V and a charter member of Chapter AS, she was a board member of Campbell County Public Library.

An avid traveler, she had visited five continents.  Her interests included her family and friends, playing bridge, genealogy, cooking, entertaining and scrapbooking.

Survivors include her husband of Gillette; three children, John Michael Daly of Gillette, Mary Jill Daly of Laramie and Margaret "Peg" Smith of Gillette; two brothers, Burton Kerns of Yuma, Ariz., and Kenneth Kerns of Passcreek; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Herbert Dana Kerns, and an infant son.
