Helen Marie HYSELL Cook Wolfe 1921 - 2012 SHS 1940

Oct. 27, 1921 - Mar. 14, 2012.

Helen Marie Cook was born in Sheridan, Wyo., Oct. 27, 1921, to Claude and Hattie Hysell.

During World War II, she moved to the Philadelphia area to assist with the war effort. She met and married Harold Cook, and they settled first in Hamilton and later moved to the family farm near Hamilton.

Helen ran her own business for 30 years and was well known in the area for her beautiful antique shop and expertise in all areas relating to the antique business.

This love and desire for preserving history led her to become a member of the Punxsutawney Historical Society, where she served in various capacities. She spent many years volunteering at Punxsutawney Area Hospital and was saddened when her health no longer allowed her to volunteer.

Following the death of Harold, Helen met and married Gilbert (Hank) Wolfe of Punxsutawney. Helen and Hank split this time between their Scotland Avenue home in the winter and the farm the rest of the year.

After the passing of Hank, Helen returned to the farm full time until late in life, passing the last months of her life in the AM/PM Care Center and Mulberry Square.

Helen was proceeded in death by her husbands, Harold Cook and Gilbert Wolfe, both of Punxsutawney; her brother Jack Hysell; and sister Mildred Williams; and one great-grand child, Brent.

Helen is survived by sons Carl Cook (Judy) of Punxsutawney, Steve Cook (Vera) of Salt Lake City, Utah, Jeff Cook (Juanamaria) of El Paso, Texas, John Wolfe of Dover, Ohio, and Jonell (Wolfe) Small of Crecent; and by grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is being planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at the Punxsutawney Presbyterian Church. Light refreshments will be served.

In lieu of flowers, Helen’s request is for a donation to the Punxsutawney Historical Society.

Interment will be in the Hopewell Cemetery, Frostburg.
