Iris L. Ferren, 87, passed away Friday, July 24, 2009 at Sheridan Manor.

She was born November 24, 1921, to Ralph C. and Velma M. Ferren in Sheridan, WY, where she attended school and was baptized into the First Christian Church.

She expressed her love of music through the piano, organ, and clarinet.

Iris chose to become a Minister of Religious Education, acquiring her education at Phillips University College of The Bible (Enid, OK) and College of The Bible at Lexington, KY. She was ordained as a Minister of Christian Education in 1954. Most of her working life was spent at Disciples of Christ headquarters in Indianapolis, IN.

Iris traveled a great deal in her work and spent vacations with family in Sheridan. The Big Horn Mountains and the family cabin were very dear to her.

When she retired and moved back to Sheridan in 1974, she became employed with Kiewit Mining until 1986.

Sheridan Manor was a happy home to Iris for the past three years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother-in-law Bud Skar,and numerous cousins.

Survivors include a sister, Jackie Skar Kitchens, two nieces, Paula Jones or Minerva, OH and Carol Machalk of Parkman, two great-nephews and one great-niece.

A celebration of her life is planned for September.
