Sheridan County native Harry Anthony Daniels, 84, of Deadwood, S.D., died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at the VA Medical Center in Sturgis, S.D.

Services were Sept. 10 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Deadwood. Burial with military honors was at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Mr. Daniels was born Aug. 6, 1918, in Kleenburn to John and Lucia (Mancini) Daniels. He grew up in the Sheridan area and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1940. He served in the South Pacific during World War II.

He and his brother began a broadcasting career in July 1947 with KDSJ radio in Deadwood. They expanded their operation with KRSD radio in 1953, KRSD television in 1958 and KDSJ television in 1960.

Mr. Daniels retired in 1982. He was inducted into the South Dakota Broadcasters' Hall of Fame in 1993.

He married Mary Hill in May 1949; they lived in Deadwood.

He was a member of Saint Ambrose Catholic Church of Deadwood, a 50-year member of Elks, a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of Knights of Columbus. He loved life, nature and time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Susan D'Aniello of Las Vegas; a son, Marc Daniels of Denver; two grandchildren; one niece; and two nephews.

Memorials may benefit St. Ambrose Catholic Church.
