Bernice Jeanne CAMPBELL Gravenhorst 1921 - 2012 SHS 1940

Bernice Jeanne Gravenhorst, resident of San Jose, our remarkable mother, Bernice Jeanne Gravenhorst of San Jose passed away peacefully on July 28, at the age of 90.

Jeanne was born November 2, 1921, in her beloved hometown of Sheridan, Wyoming, to Earl Cecilia (Dinneen) Campbell. After graduating from Sheridan High School in 1940--where she excelled in music, playing piano and clarinet--she attended Sheridan Business School. After graduation she worked for Judge Robert Rose in Casper, Wyoming.

It was in Casper where she met her sweetheart, Air Force Captain, Edward Gravenhorst, and they married in l945 when Ed returned home from WW II. Thereafter, Jeanne pursued the busy life of an Air Force officer's wife. Over the next 20 years, she and Ed raised four children while stationed on 10 different Air Force bases, including overseas assignments in Ankara, Turkey and Ramstein, Germany.

The family moved to CA in 1960 where Jeanne began working part-time for Syntex. She also volunteered her boundless energy and organizational skills to the Children's Home Society as well as several other Catholic charities.

Jeanne was an accomplished bridge player, playing with one special group of friends for over 40 yrs.

Jeanne and Ed moved to the Villages in San Jose in l985 where Jeanne continued her love of music by playing clarinet in the Villages Band. Jeanne and Ed shared a beautiful marriage of 63 years before Ed passed on in 2008.

Not even the debilitating effects of Alzheimer's, which challenged her last years, could take away her joyous spirit and enduring love.

Jeanne is survived by her brother Mose Campbell of Sheridan, Wyoming, her children Patty, Kurt, Nance, and Maribeth, nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

Jeanne is predeceased by her sisters Rita Anton and Dolores Jones-Wolney.

A funeral Mass will be held in her honor on Wednesday, August 1, 10:00 a.m., at St. Nicholas Church, 473 Lincoln Ave., Los Altos, followed by a private family interment.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Jeanne to: Alzheimer's Association ,1060 La Avenida St., Mtn.View, CA 94043.
