Curtis Elwood "Red" CALANBORN 1921 - 1998 SHS 1940

Curtis Elwood "Red" Calanborn, 77, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Goodwin officiating. Interment will follow in the Big Horn Cemetery in Big Horn.

Mr. Calanborn was born May 21, 1921, in Banner to Leonard and Carma Butterfield Calanborn.

He married Velma Gene Freese Aug. 20, 1945, in Sheridan. They had three daughters and one son.

He served in World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He later fought in the Korean Conflict where he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart.

As a business owner, he operated City Radiator Supply formerly known as C & M Radiator Shop here in Sheridan. He later worked at the VA for 20 years before retirement.

Mr. Calanborn attended Sheridan area schools and graduated from Sheridan High School.

He loved spending time as a boy with his grandparents, the Butterfields, at the family ranch near Banner.

He helped run the family operation as a young man until he served his country during World War II.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in his garden, and was a Harley Davidson fan.

He lived close to and cared for his parents and great aunt, Lota Barker, at their family home south of Sheridan.

He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was preceded in death by his parents, great aunt and son, Jerry Lee Calanborn.

Survivors include three daughters; Judith A. Bury of Manderson, Brenda K. Wells of Nampa, Idaho, and Billie R. Ingalls of Roundup, Mont.; two sisters, Kathleen (Harvey) Weaver of Clarkston, Wash., and Shirley Wilbur of Largo, Fla.; and 12 grandchildren.
