OBITUARIES - CASPER STAR-TRIBUNE - January 12 2004

CASPER - Services for Marjorie Lee (Barkey) Anderson, 81, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church by Fr. Royce Brown. Cremation will follow.

She died peacefully on Jan. 10, 2004, at Central Wyoming Hospice Home, surrounded by family members.

Born April 11, 1922, in Sheridan, she was the daughter of Reuben and Vivian (Church) Barkey, pioneer ranchers in Johnson County. The family later ranched in Sheridan County, where she was raised and attended high school.

After a year at the University of Wyoming, she began her teaching career. In 1943, she married Joseph "Ben" Anderson.

They worked on various ranches in Montana and Crook and Johnson counties, then she returned to teaching. For 10 years, she taught in Billy Creek, Mayoworth, Sussex, Barnum and Kaycee.

The family moved to Casper in 1966 and she taught for 20 years at Westwood and Paradise Valley elementary schools. She retired in 1986.

Following retirement, she helped to raise her grandchildren; volunteered at Natrona County Memorial Hospital, Fort Caspar, and the Chamber of Commerce; and taught "55 Alive" driving classes.

Survivors include two brothers, John Barkey of Denver and Ralph Barkey and his wife of Lincoln, Calif.; sister, Patsy Hoffman, and her husband of Longmont, Colo.; two sons and their wives, Jim and Rusty Anderson, both of Casper; daughter, Christy Cleveland, and her husband of Kaycee; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Betty Barkey, Doris Maret, Jeanne Berry and Bobbie Smith; and a son, Dennis Allan Anderson.
