Floyd Louis Baas, age 94, passed away on June 1, 2017 at Lawton Fort Sill Veterans Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma.

He was born in Glen Ellen, California to Neal and Ella Baas. He was raised in Sheridan, WY, and graduated from Sheridan High School. While he was in high school he loved working summers in Quietus, Montana for friends of the family.

After graduation he joined the Navy during WWII as a radio operator on a PBY bomber seaplane. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while serving as an aircrew involved in anti-submarine operations in the Bay of Biscay and Western Approaches to the United Kingdom. After serving four years with the Navy he returned to Sheridan.

He met Jaunita Lundy and they were married on Jan. 6, 1945. They lived in Sheridan for several years. They loved the Bighorn Mountains and did lots of fishing and hunting.

Floyd acquired a job with Mobil Oil in Casper, where they lived and raised two children.

While living in Casper he joined the Wyoming Army National Guard's 300th Armored Field Artillery and was sent to Korea. He was wounded there while serving and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was discharged on January 1953.

After his discharge from the National Guard he returned to Mobil Oil and was transferred to Milwaukee Wisconsin and later on to Dallas, Texas, where he retired in 1980 as the accounting manager for Mobil Oil.

After his retirement, he and his wife bought a small ranch in Clifty, Arkansas. They loved ranching, but their love for golf inspired them to move to Bella Vista, Arkansas to a golfing resort. They stayed there for several years, but decided to move to Mesa, Arizona, where they continued golfing. He also loved bowling with his wife and her sister's families. After his health declined, they decided to move to Lawton, Oklahoma so they could be near their daughter.

Survivors include two children, Diana Baas Stamper and husband David Stamper of Indiahoma, Oklahoma, Daniel Louis Baas of Prosper, Texas, a sister Evelyn (Baas) Black and husband Wally Black, two sisters-in-law, Nancy (Lundy) Isakson of Sheridan, and Betty (Lundy) Weekly of Sheridan, two grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Neal and Ella Baas, and his wife, Jaunita Baas.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on August 5, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Chaplain Arden Haeffner officiating.
