Bernice "Be" WERRE Carlson 1921 - 1999 SHS 1939

SHERIDAN - Graveside services for Bernice May "Be" Carlson, 78, will be conducted at II a.m. Thursday in the Elks Cemetery, with the Rev. Joseph Keys officiating. Cremation has taken place.

She died July 18, 1999, at Sheridan Manor.

She was born May 2, 1921, in Highmore, S.D., the daughter of Jacob Joseph "Jake" and Emelia (Warnkee) Werre. Her sisters told their grandmother to throw her out the window because they didn't want another sister. She attended grade school in Chamberlin, S.D. She moved to Sheridan her sophomore year in high school, graduating in 1939.

In her younger years, she worked at the Cox Ranch, Brown Ranch and Bones Brothers Ranch in the Kirby, Mont., area.

On June 23, 1946, she married C.H. "Buster" Carlson in Sheridan.

For 43 years, she worked as an optician for several optometrists.

She was an avid bowler and a member of several bowling leagues; loved her flowers and enjoyed crafts and reading. She built a doll house and donated it to the Children’s Library.

Survivors include a sister, Evelyn Bawdon and her husband of Highmore. S D; a brother, Calvin Werre and his wife of Sundance; and several nieces and nephews

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, a sister, lillyan Price, and a brother. Art Werre.

Memorials may be made to Sheridan Eye Care Center Children’s Vision Fund, 116 S. Main, Sheridan 82801 to be used for children in need of glasses.
