James David MEREDITH 1919 - 1992 SHS 1939

SHERIDAN _ Services for James David Meredith, 72, will be conducted at Ferries Funeral Home Tuesday at 2 p.m. with burial at the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

Mr. Meredith died Jan. 18, 1992, at Sheridan County Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Acme, Wyo., May 9, 1919, and grew up and graduated from high school in the Sheridan area. He briefly attended the University of Wyoming before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps prior to World War II.

On March 28, 1942, he married Martha Louise Upchurch of Fort Smith, Ark. She died on Feb. 6, 1987.

During the war, Mr. Meredith was stationed in the South Pacific and was a part of the Armed Forces Radio Service (AFRS). He was discharged from the military with the rank of master sergeant in 1953.

For the past 30 years, Mr. Meredith had been employed as a radio announcer and station manager for various radio stations throughout Wyoming. He lived in Rock Springs before retiring in 1986, and returned to Sheridan at that time.

On June 20, 1988, he married Esther Grant who survives him.

Mr. Meredith was a 32nd degree mason, and a member of Kalif Shrine Temple and the Disabled American Veterans.

Other survivors include two sons, James D. Meredith Jr. of Seattle, Wash., and George Meredith of Sheridan; and five daughters, Saundra Allen of Roswell, N.M., Kathleen Fritts of Boulder, Colo., Martha E. Tabolt of Rock Springs, Janet Doak of Amarillo, Texas, and Tammy James of Rock Springs. A brother, Robert B. Meredith of Shoshoni also survives.

He was preceded in death by a brother, George L. Meredith, and a sister, Halene.

Memorials to' the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children in care of the Kalif Temple would be appreciated by the family.
