Yvonne Adele LONG Johnson 1921 - 2005 SHS 1939

Yvonne A. Johnson, 83, of Loveland , passed away July 2, 2005 at her home.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Vermillion, South Dakota to Porter and Olive Long on October 19, 1921. After living in Tennessee and Kentucky for several years the family moved to Belle Fourche, South Dakota where she attended elementary school and three years at Belle Fourche High School. In 1938 she moved with her family to Sheridan, Wyoming where she graduated from high school. Yvonne then attended St. John's School of Nursing in Rapid City, South Dakota and received her nursing degree as a registered nurse.

She married Hershel D. Johnson December 31, 1942 at Pendleton Field, Oregon. There she was an obstetrical supervisor at St. Anthony's Hospital. She held other nursing positions at Larimer County Hospital and was one of the first staff at Loveland Memorial Hospital. She was also a clinic nurse for the Larimer County Welfare Clinic and office nurse for Dr. J.T. Brown. Her last position was as a school nurse for R2J Schools.

Yvonne was a former Cub Scout and Brownie Leader. She was active in the First Congregational Church where she held several offices. She was a former member of Belles Lettres Book Club and belonged to Sorosis. She was also a volunteer at Stepping Stones Adult Day Care where she read to her clients. This was one of her favorite times.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband Hershel; two sons, Dan Johnson and wife Mary of Dessemeer, AL and Tim Johnson and wife Gail of Chichester, NH.; two daughters, Pat Wood and husband Jessie of Everett, WA and Diane Baese of Racine, WI.; one brother James Long and wife Lorraine of Riverton, WY.; and grandchildren, James Johnson-Null and wife Monica, Damon Bird and wife Shawna, Andy Johnson, Wendy Gatchel and husband Kevin, Danielle Elliott and husband Ed, Heather Mayberry and husband Jason, Jamie Palmer, Jennifer Johnson, Jacqueline Lawrie and husband Chris; nine great grandchildren Karl Johnson, Christie and Steven Gatchel, Audrey and Ayden Bird, Austin, Charles, and Hannah Mayberry, and Skye Elliott.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Paul Long.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at Allnutt Hunter Chapel. Interment will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, at Allnutt Hunter Chapel.
