Joseph LONG 1921 - 1964 SHS 1939

Funeral services for Joseph Long, director of the University of Wyoming division of data processing, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Stryker Mortuary.

Mr. Long died Sunday at the Veterans hospital in Cheyenne.

He was born at Acme May 19, 1921, to Mr. and Mrs. Anoy Long.

A 1939 graduate of Sheridan High School, Mr. Long obtained a bachelor of science degree in statistics from UW in 1942. He received his M.S. in business administration there in 1949 and was first employed at the University March 1, 1950. He was promoted from data supervisor to director July 1, 1961.

Mr. Long spent the period from November 1942 until December of 1945 as a staff sergeant in the medical department of the U.S. Army, serving in New Guinea and the Philippine Islands.

A cost accountant for the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad in 1946-47, Mr. Long was an instructor in commerce in the commercial college in Torrington for one quarter in 1948 and at UW the winter quarter of 1949 and 1950.

He is survived by his widow, Betty, of 1300 Canby; two daughters, Marilyn and Glenna of Laramie; his mother, Mary M. Long of Acme, a sister, Mary Long of Acme; three brothers, Edward of Idaho Falls, Idaho; William of Monarch, and Andrew of Laramie.

The Rev. William R. Persons of the First Methodist Church will officiate at the funeral services.

Honorary casket bearers will be Lawrence Meeboer, Ralph McWhinnie, G.D. Humphrey, Dean Clare Mundell, Leonard Helzer, O.R. Hendricks and Dixon Smith.

Active casket bearers will be Marvin Wyman, Eliott Hays, Jack Routson, Archie Johnson, Wilbur Harris and Harry C. Carpenter.

Frends may make contributions to the Cancer Society.

Burial will be in Greenhill cemetery.
