SHERIDAN -- Funeral services for Sheridan resident Katherine "Kay" Rathburn, 83, will be conducted at 10 a.m. today, Jan. 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheridan by the Revs. Ronald Nelson and Wilbur Holz. Interment will be in Sheridan Elks Cemetery.

She died Jan. 2, 2005, at Westview Health Care Center.

Born Aug. 25, 1921, in Lander, she was the daughter of Christian and Anna (Kostel) Gosch; and, as a young child, moved to Sheridan in a covered wagon. She was raised and educated there.

After moving to Davenport, Iowa, to work, she met William Rathburn. The couple was married Nov. 7, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo.

When her husband entered World War II, she returned to Sheridan; they remained there after his military service. She worked for Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County; Dr. Jake Batty; and Sheridan College, retiring in 1987.

An active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a Stephens minister, she also belonged to Brundage Addition Homemakers; was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary; and was an avid gardener. She loved being in the mountains fishing with her family.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years of Sheridan; three sons, William Rathburn II of Sheridan, Raymond Rathburn of Spokane, Wash., and Stephen Rathburn of Billings, Mont.; daughter, Rosanne McGlaughlin of Tipton, Iowa; three brothers, George Gosch of Flagstaff, Ariz., Chris Gosch of Winterhaven, Fla., and William Gosch of Sheridan; two sisters, Bernice Kinter of Sheridan and Maryanne Pitsch of Hardin, Mont.; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marjorie; and a granddaughter.
