Doris GODDARD Santo 1921 - 2010 SHS 1939

Memorial Services to celebrate the life of Doris Goddard Santo will be held Saturday October 23, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Steve Burnett officiating. On Saturday October 2, 2010, Doris, in her sleep, slipped gently from this world into the eternal world Jesus Christ promised her: six days after turning 89 years old.

In passing from this life, Doris joins her parents, Marvilla (Gettys) and Sim Goddard, her husband of 54 years, Dan J. Santo, her son, Harold Glen Santo, and her brother Harold (Rusty) Goddard. Left behind to grieve as well as celebrate her life are her daughter, Linda, and son-in-law, Harry Brubaker. Grandchildren: Benjamin (Natalia), Nicholas, and Elaine, two great grandchildren, Bella, (4) and Kalel (3); her brother Glen Goddard, her two sisters in law, Florence and Virginia, her nephews: Bob, (Alice) Bailey, Bob (Kathryn) Goddard, Larry Goddard (Brooksie), and Tom Goddard. Her nieces: Eileen (John) Albrigo, Kathleen (Tom) Moss, Mary Beth Goddard (Mike Powell); cousins Bob (Marianne) Gettys, Karen (Gettys) Binder (Jon), 11 great nephews and nieces, 12 great great nephews and nieces and many good friends.

Doris was born in Sheridan Wyoming, September 26, 1921, where she grew up and graduated from high school in 1939; after which she moved to Boulder Colorado with her family and attended the University of Colorado for three years. In 1942 she married Daniel Joseph Santo. She remained in Boulder until he returned from serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II. In 1946 she moved to Casper, with her husband and small son where her husband went to work for Standard Oil Co. She was a "stay at home" mother becoming a Cub Scout den mother, a Brownie Scout leader, a PTA president, a state PTA treasurer. In 1958 she went to work for the Natrona County school system at East Jr. High school cafeteria and later worked at Dean Morgan Jr. High school cafeteria. She retired in 1976 and traveled throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico with her husband in their motor home. They spent the winter months in Arizona, Florida, South Texas (fishing off the coast), and caravanning in Mexico. During the summer months they hiked and back-packed in the wilderness areas of Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico and California, often accompanied by her two brothers and their wives. In 1985 at age 64, she hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back up again. In 1987 she went on an un-mechanized 11-day white water rafting trip through the Grand Canyon. She traveled to Egypt and Greece; enjoyed bus trips with the Heritage Group of Norwest Bank; and followed the school and sports activities of her three grandchildren.

Mrs. Santo belonged to the First United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, AMOCO Annuitants club. Ladies of the Petroleum Club, the "M" club, and was a 63-year member of the Say-Sew Club. She was a patron of the Casper College Theater, and of the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra. Her greatest love and devotion were to her daughter and son-in law and her three grandchildren. She was their greatest cheerleader in their lives and their activities. She adored her great grandchildren and enjoyed every minute of their frequent visits.
