Former Sheridan resident Myrtle G. Luckett, 88, died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at St. Catherine’s Village in Madison, Miss.

Mass of Christian Burial was Thursday at St. Richard Catholic Church in Jackson, Miss. Burial was in Canton (Miss.) City Cemetery. Arrangements were with Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Jackson.

Born in Billings to James H. and Agnes C. Gillis, she graduated from St. Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a nurse in the Schunk Clinic in Sheridan.

Mrs. Luckett was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force Nurse Corps and a charter member of St. Richard’s Catholic Church in Jackson, where she volunteered for many years.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Louise Marie Luckett.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, William J.L. Luckett; three children, Mamie Balestra, Rosie Wenstrup, and Bill Luckett; a brother, Neil Gillis; and five grandchildren.
