Benjamin John FAVERO 1918 - 2018 SHS 1939

Benjamin John Favero, 100, of Sheridan, Wyoming, passed away Monday, April 23, 2018.

He was born on April 18, 1918 to parents, Bart and Theresa Favero who had immigrated from Italy in 1913. The family settled in Pittsburgh, PA, Cambria, WY and finally Acme, WY, where Bart worked the coal mines. Ben was born in the old Sheridan Hospital and was one of five children.

On December 7, 1941, Ben and his friends, doing their duty to their country, enlisted at the Recruiting Office at night due to the bombing of Pearl Harbor. At the age of 23, Ben joined the Navy and spend the next four years as a mechanic aboard the USS LST1016 in the Pacific Ocean. Before joining the Navy, Ben worked for Montana-Dakota Utilities.

After returning from WWII, Ben started working for Peter Kiewit and Sons as a mechanic and worked up to shop foreman and master mechanic. He retired from that position in the late 1970's.

On February 28, 1952, Ben married Nancy J. Ekis of Sheridan. They lived their entire married life in Sheridan. After Nancy's passing in 2016, Ben moved into the Green House Living Center.

Ben enjoyed the beautiful Big Horn Mountains with Nancy where they had a trailer at Blue Spruce. They enjoyed the sports of hunting, fishing and bowling. Both were avid Denver Bronco Fans. They hosted many family gatherings at their trailer where wonderful memories were made. Ben was a member of the Elks Club. Throughout the years since WWII, Ben's crew held reunions throughout the United States which became a highlight for them all.

Ben was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, his parents, Bart and Theresa, sisters, Madaliene Mathews (George"Babs"), Terry Spomer (Hank), brothers, Alex (Rosie), and Mario and wife.

Ben is survived by nieces, Cheryle Haworth (Merl) of Fort Collins, Diana Johnson (Bill) of Casper; nephews, Bruce Keahey (Karon), George Mathews (Esther) and Larry Ekis all of Sheridan and Ed Ekis of Sun City, AZ; 4 grand nieces, 4 grand nephews and several great grand nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, April 30, 2018 and military honors at the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery in the Elks Section with Pastor Stephen Hayman officiating. A luncheon for family and friends will follow at Champion Funeral Home.
