Nina C. CAPILLUPO Ostrander 1911 - 2011 SHS 1939
;

Nina C. Ostrander, 89, of Port Royal, S.C., died Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at Helena House in Port Royal.

She was born in Sheridan, Wyoming, daughter of the late Graziano Antonio and Mary Canino Capillupo.

Nina was one of only two students in the Sheridan, Wyoming School District to earn the coveted 140 wpm shorthand award. This distinction provided her numerous opportunities including requests by the Senior Senator from Wyoming to take dictation from visiting dignitaries, and positions with the Interior Department in Yellowstone National Park, and later with the Internal Revenue Division in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Nina married Richard Neal Ostrander on April 24, 1954, and together raised three children that graduated from college, have had successful careers, and provided eight wonderful grandchildren. Most telling, since Dick’s retirement in the mid-1980s, seldom did a day go by that she didn’t receive a call from one or more of her children checking on her wellbeing. Her family will miss her passion for entertaining, cooking, traveling and gardening.

Nina was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Rose and Conjetta Capillupo.

Nina is survived by her loving husband Dick; two sisters: Katie Smith in Sun City, Arizona and Evelyn Edwards, Gillette, Wyoming; three children: Rick, Bob and Susan; eight grandchildren: Whitney, Allison, Erin, Taylor, Ryan, Christopher, Brooke, and Sean; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Cremation has taken place. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association and condolences sent in care of Rick Ostrander, 123 Coosaw River Dr., Beaufort, SC 29907.

Copeland Funeral Service assisted the family.
