Franklin Joseph "Jay" BARNES 1918 - 2002 SHS 1939

Franklin "Jay" Barnes, 84, of Sheridan, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002 in Sheridan Manor.

Mr. Barnes was born Sept. 25, 1918 to Perry E. and Bessie (Embler) Barnes. He graduated from Sheridan High School and served in the U.S. Army in World War II.

He married Marjorie Green in Hardin, Mont on Dec. 31, 1946.

Mr. Barnes did auto body work and painting for Rappone Motors in Sheridan, and he also repaired and sold old houses. He worked at the YMCA as the maintenance supervisor for many years until he retired.

He was a life member of the Sheridan Elks Lodge and the American Legion, and he was a member of the First Christian Church. He loved fishing and going to the mountains.

Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife, Marjorie "Margie" Barnes of Sheridan, one brother, Perry Barnes, Jr., of Casper, three step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, a sister and a stepson.

Funeral services for Mr. Barnes will be Saturday, Dec. 28 at 10 a.m. at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating . Interment of his cremains will take place at a later date.

Memorials may be offered to benefit the First Christian Church.
