Clarence L. Roush, 81, of Sheridan died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Private family services will be held. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Mr. Roush was born Dec. 17, 1919, in Sheridan to P.T. and Margaret (Hustiwaite) Roush. The family moved to Eugene, Ore., when he was a boy, and he attended school there. The family moved to Great Falls, Mont., before returning to Sheridan, where he graduated from high school. He played high school football and participated in track and Golden Gloves boxing.

He married Cora Mattox in Sheridan in 1942. They divorced.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and was in submarine service during World War II.

He married Erlene Slater in Sheridan in 1956.

He was co-owner of Roush Plumbing and Heating until 1976, when he became plumbing inspector for the city of Sheridan. He retired in 1990.

He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the American Legion and Kalif Shrine and directed the Oriental Band for 27 years. He was a 50-year member of Eagles 186 and Masonic Lodge 8 and was a life member of the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen and Ralph, and by his sister, Louise.

Survivors include his wife of Sheridan; a son, Tom of Big Horn; six daughters, Julia Ann Nyholm and Billie Jean Norberg, both of Centralia, Wash., Diana Lynn Jackson and Vicki Lou Rigdon, both of Longview, Wash., Debra Rice of Sheridan and Chrissy Fann of Lander; a brother, Robert of Sheridan; 17 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
