Dulcie Louise KNIGHT Chance 1920 - 2008 SHS 1938

Born April 1, 1920 in Idaho Falls, ID.

Passed away on May 3, 2008 at 88 years old, from complications of a stroke in Lodi, CA; she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, George Chance in 1991, her daughter Alice Arney(2004), granddaughter Kyra Thomason of Lodi, CA (2006) and great-granddaughter Alyssa Hirihara of Riverside,CA (2005).

She will be missed by her sister Marjorie Collins of Bozeman, MT.

A very devoted, loving and caring mother she is survived and will be greatly missed by her daughters, Rhonda and husband Rick Ireland of Manteca, CA; Elizabeth and husband Rick Fitzsimmons of Rancho Murieta, CA; Margy Rose of Manteca, CA; and son in law Steve Arney of Antioch, CA. Grandchildren Lisa Rose, Pete Garza, Michelle Hirihara, Jade Ireland, Todd Fitzsimmons, Timothy Arney and Tammy Arney. Twenty-two great- grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.

Born to Arvil and Ruth Knight in Idaho Falls, ID; moved to Billings, MT. at two years old then she moved to Sheridan, WY. at six years old, where she grew up and finished high school, moved to Sacramento, CA. with her cousin Ruby to work at Mather in 1942 where she met George and married on October 31, 1942. Had four daughters, lived in Sacramento until 1992 when she moved to Manteca with Rhonda after her husband's death.

An avid quilter after retirement she taught quilting at Manteca Adult Education, everyone in the family had a quilt or two from mom and also taught two of her daughters the same craft. She was also a tutor for the Adult Literacy Program in Stockton-San Joaquin Public Library from 1994-1997. She worked for the State of California since 1948 in the Welfare Dept., State Library, CYA, Transportation and retiring in 1981, she and dad traveled all around the U.S. until dad had succumbed to Alzheimer's Disease in 1985.

Mom loved spending time with her family and will be remembered for her sweet, caring, compassion for others, her gentleness and kindness as she was a beautiful person in- side and out.

She loved card and board games. Most of all she loved to play her piano. In fact that was her therapy;

We are all blessed to have known such a loving and kind soul.

Family and friends are invited to the Viewing and Funeral Services at Harry A. Nauman & Son Funeral Chapel,4140 Freeport Blvd., Sacramento on Thursday, May 8, 2008 with viewing at 9:00am and services starting at 11:00am, with Interment to follow at Sacramento Memorial Lawn.
