MILLVILLE, UTAH: Mary Louise Hughey Palmer, 87, passed away peacefully in Logan, Utah on Saturday, May 5, 2007.

Louise was born February 27, 1920 to William Jennings and Florence Mary (Wallace) Hughey in Dayton, Wyoming.

She attended elementary school in Story, Wyoming and in Sheridan, Wyoming. She graduated from Sheridan, Wyoming, High School where she was involved in business and musical activities. She also attended L. D. S. Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Louise always received enjoyment from participating in musical activities. During her childhood, she learned to play the violin and the piano. During her high school years, she played violin in an all-girls orchestra which was directed by her mother, Florence Hughey. She had a lovely soprano singing voice through which she provided enjoyment for many. Louise had varied employment experiences. She worked as a legal secretary for several years in Wyoming. As she was raising her son as a single mother, she worked for the Bureau of Reclamation office in Logan. She worked at the LDS Institute of Religion at Utah State University for many years and was secretary to the director of the Institute at the time of her retirement.

On April 4, 1940, she was married to Melbourne Elverne Scott, in Sheridan, Wyoming. Of that union came her only child, a son, Jerry Wayne Scott, who was born on February 6, 1941 and who was killed in a tragic motorcycle crash in 1990. This marriage ended in divorce after six years. After Jerry was raised, Louise married Allen DeWitt Palmer in 1962. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.

An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Louise served in many capacities, many of them in music. A highlight among her musical service was directing the chorus and the singing parts for Cache Stake's presentation of "Promised Valley." As she was about ready to retire from regular employment, she contracted Parkinson's disease. She was able to stay at home for many years through the devoted service of her husband, Dee, and that of friends, neighbors and ward members. The disease finally progressed to the point where living at home was impossible. She was a resident of The Terrace Grove Assisted Living Center at the time of her death.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, William Jennings and Florence Mary (Wallace) Hughey, her son, Jerry Wayne Scott, her brother, William Joseph Hughey; a sister-in-law, Gladys Ruth (Mattson) Hughey, and a nephew, John David Hughey. She is survived by her husband, Allen DeWitt Palmer, a sister, Barbara Ann Hughey (Jay)Thueson, 3 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family extends thanks to those friends who have been constantly helpful as well as to the staff of Terrace Grove Assisted Living Center.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 10, 2007 at 12:00 pm in the Millville 2nd Ward, 360 East 450 North with a viewing from 10:00 - 11:30 am. Bishop Rick Hill will be conducting. Interment will be in the Millville Cemetery.
