Gerald Sampson GWINN 1919 - 2002 SHS 1938

Gerald S. Gwinn, 83, Sheridan, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, the Rev. Ray Clark and Father David Duprey officiating, with a reception to follow. Private graveside services are Tuesday.

Mr. Gwinn was born June 23, 1919, to David E. and Frances S. Gwinn. A Sheridan native, he graduated from Sheridan High School in 1938 and lived here most of his life. He also attended Kemper Military Academy and the University of Wyoming. He excelled in school sports and was named to the All-State high school football team his senior year.

He was heard on KROE radio's "Time in for Sports." He worked in sales and marketing and was associated with Sheridan Commercial Co., a Gwinn family business for many years.

He served on the Vernon S. and Rowena W. Griffith Foundation Board and was a longtime member of Elks Lodge.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and golf.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and George, and by his first wife, Jean.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes; two sons, Seth Gwinn, Fremont, Neb., and Geoff Tripalin, Madison, Wis.; two stepdaughters, Maureen and Barbara Humphrys; and four grandchildren.
