Charles Thomas "Chuck" BELL 1919 - 1996 SHS 1938

SHERIDAN - Memorial services for Charles Thomas "Chuck" Bell, 76, will be held at 11 a m. on Friday at Champion Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Clark officiating.

Mr. Bell died Jan. 2, 1996, at his home after a long illness.

He was born in Sheridan on May 22, 1919, to Fred A. and M. Eveline (Bull) Bell.

He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1938.

He was a sergeant in the 65th Division of the 259th Infantry Company E. He served in the ETO and received the Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star.

After World War II, he returned to Sheridan where he worked on ranches and participated in rodeos in the area as a calf roper and team roper.

He married Joanne Perkins on Aug. 5, 1952. They spent several years in Arizona before returning to Sheridan in 1959.

He made custom spurs for many years and had them all over the United States, as well as Canada, Australia. Brazil and the Philippines.

In 1978, he went to work for Sheridan County Weed and Pest in the leafy spurge program, as well as continuing his spur business and beginning a hobby of wood sculpture.

After retiring in 1983. he concentrated on wood sculpture and won many prizes.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. Maren. David and Leonard.

Survivors include his wife, one sister. Virginia Knight of Billings; one brother, Bill Bell of Galveston, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials in memory of Mr. Bell may be designated to the hedon Cancer Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice, in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan.
