Duane Dale HOOVER 1918 - 1995 SHS 1937

DECKER, Mont. - Services for Duane Dale Hoover, 76, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at the Champion Funeral Home by Hayden Porter. Interment will follow at the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

Mr. Hoover died Oct. 22, 1995, at his ranch.

He was born Nov. 16, 1918, to Jesse and Harry A. Hoover at the Spraklen home in Sheridan. He grew up on the family ranch and attended the Gopher School, graduating from Sheridan High School. He operated the family ranch near Otter, Mont, with his brother, Don, for 56 years until their retirement in 1992.

On July 14, 1951, he married Lois Kitchens at First Christian Church in Sheridan.

Mr. Hoover enjoyed ranch life, the outdoors, playing horseshoes and watching baseball. During his younger years, he played first base for the Otter Creek Baseball Team. He spent many years as a deputy stock inspector. Mr. Hoover's father was the first mail carrier on the Otter Route, and his sons, Duane and Don, carried the route for 45 years.

A born-again Christian, Mr. Hoover attended the Birney Berean Church and was involved with the country churches and family Bible studies. He was also a member of the Montana Stockgrowers Association.

Preceding him in death was a sister, Betty Wilson.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kathleen Roos of Lexington, Neb., and Nancy Sprock of Hays, Kan.; two sons, Mark Hoover and Mike Hoover, both of Sheridan; a sister, Jean Haraldson of Spokane, Wash.; one brother, Don W. Hoover of Sheridan; and seven grandchildren.
